10/8/2010 Share Your Personal TestimonyScriptures: John 4:39-42
In this chapter in John, we read about an encounter between a Samaritan woman and Jesus. To understand this exchange fully we must have some background: at this time a respectable Jewish man would not talk with a Samaritan woman, societal rules did not allow for it. Going further: they would especially not talk with this woman who was living in sin. But Jesus is not bound by the rules of society and He has no prejudices! So we read in this chapter that Jesus spoke to this woman showing us that: the Gospel is for everyone! It does not matter our race, social position, past or even present sins. Jesus crossed every barrier to share the Gospel. From this encounter the Word tells us that many Samaritans came to believe in Jesus. There were two groups that became believers: First, it says that many Samartians believed on Him for the saying of the woman: she testified and shared her experience, "He told me all that ever I did." Jesus demonstrated His supernatural power when He spoke with her "for thou hast had five husbands." Many people believed because she was not ashamed of her encounter with Jesus. Second, the Bible tells us that many believed because of His own words. This group believed because they heard Him for themselves and they needed their own encounter with Jesus. Her testimony excited their curiosity, but Jesus' words changed their lives. So how does this apply to our lives? We need to cross barriers to share the Gospel! The Gospel is for everyone and we have been given a powerful tool: our personal testimony! Our experience cannot be defeated or argued, its real and felt! Some will believe because of our testimonies and others will need their own personal encounter to truly believe, but our testimony will ignite their curiosity! Share your personal testimony, its powerful! Comments are closed.
