6/6/2011 Bitter WatersScriptures: Exodus 15:22-27
Israel had just passed through the Red Sea and Pharaoh's slaves were now free people. Their enemy was destroyed and they had just finished a victory dance. Then they traveled three days into the Wilderness of Shur. A wildnerness is a place you are not sure you want to be and the name Shur means: "wall." There was a wall behind them: no going back. A wall around them: nothing but the unknown. They walked into a wall: no water. Also there was a wall of security, because God never sends you to a place where He will not provide. Israel was a redeemed people and God sent them to Marah, which is translated to mean bitter. Marah was a camping ground, not a place for them to live. Some things are bitter so that we do not stop! We must continue on to the promise land! There is nothing wrong with being thirsty: its a natural desire. But we cannot let the natural impact the spiritual, we must remember we are redeemed! God can transform life's bitter encounters and can sweeten the bitter waters. Through life's travels we will come sometimes to Marah, but we must remember these are only camping grounds, not building grounds. There is a remedy for bitter waters: first we must cry out to God in prayer, second God will give us something to focus on, and finally whatever God directs us to do it must be done. Its time to take our focus off murmuring people and bitter waters, and follow's God's direction and let Him provide. Remember you are redeemed! Comments are closed.
