5/14/2016 God has more for you!Scriptures: Acts 19: 1-7
We read in these verses that Paul, on his missionary travels, comes across some disciples in Ephesus. These Ephesians were believers: they believed in repentance and that God would forgive their sins. They believed in water baptism: they were baptized by John the Baptist. They believed that Jesus was the Messiah. Paul asked them: "have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?" "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." They had faith, but they had not experienced the whole message. Luke 3:16: "John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire." John spoke of the promise, but Paul offered the experience. These believers needed further instruction on the message and the ministry of Jesus our Savior. They did not fully understand the significance of His death. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. They did not fully understand the significance of His resurrection: when we receive the Holy Ghost we are born again to a new life in Christ. Paul prayed for these believers and the Holy Ghost came on them. There were outward and visible signs of the Holy Spirit's presence: they spoke in tongues with the Holy Spirit speaking through them and they prophesied worshipping God in the spirit. What is your experience with the Holy Spirit? Have you heard the promise? Have you had the experience? God invites you to experience His Spirit: He has so much more for you! Comments are closed.
