9/13/2010 Running On EmptyScriptures: 2 Kings 4: 1-7
In this chapter we read about a woman who cried out to Elisha, her deceased husband had been a prophet, but now she had nothing. She had no husband, no income, no food and no prospects. Elisha asked her "do you have anything?" She had a jar of oil, so Elisha told her to go and borrow more jars. Then she was instructed to pour the oil into those jars and set aside the full ones. When she did this the oil flowed till every jar was full and she had provisions to survive. God not only met her need, He gave her excess! Our God does not need much to work with: "emptiness can be a wonderful gift." There is something about "nothing" that inspires God. Emptiness reveals our true needs. This woman got as much oil as she had empty jars! Many people spend their time asking the question "where is God's provision?" When instead we should ask ourselves: "are we empty enough?" God is in the business of filling our emptiness when we pour ourselves out to Him. Are there things in your life you need to pour out? Anger, fear, loneliness, depression or pride? When we let those things out of our lives and become empty, God will fill us with His spirit that truly fills to running over! Comments are closed.
