2/21/2013 Trading Our Sorrows!Scriptures: Nehemiah 8:10 & Psalm 35:27 Many times we sing songs but do not understand the concept these songs are presenting. The song "Amazing Grace," was written by a man in the crossroads of his life who realized his current behavior was wrong and he desperately need the grace of God. It's more than just a hymn, it had a specific meaning and purpose. What about the song: "Trading my Sorrows?" The verse says: "I'm trading my sorrows, I'm trading my shame, I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord." The song talks about taking our pain, shame, sorrow and grief offering them to God! So how do we do that, how do we trade in our sorrows? First we must put things in the garbage can of forgetfulness. Think make to a year ago today, go it? Ok, now write down exactly everything you threw away in the trash can. Got you, you can't do it! Once we throw things away they are gone, we forget about them. Garbage peforms it's duty and then it discarded. Sorrow, pain, guilt and grief have place in our lives, they perform a duty, but once that duty is done throw them away in garbage of forgetfulness. The second way we can trade in our sorrows is to ask God's to give you His smile. Finding God's joy is a decision we make, the Bible clearly tells us: "we have not because we ask not!" This is not a lesson in the power of positive thinking, this is learning to seek the most positive force that exists: the joy of the Lord! God gives joy that helps us fulfill our life's primary activity, the reason we were created: to worship Him. Praise is our way of sending a smile towards heaven and God responds by putting His joy on our hearts. If you are feeling weak, bogged down with sorrows: it's time to lean more on God. The more we lean on Him the stronger we discover He is! It's time to let Him have your sorrow, pain and guilt and let Him transform them into joy and peace! Comments are closed.
